WUT in the Romanian academic space
As a member of the greatest Romanian academic consortium, ”Universitaria” Consortium (the common project of the five most prestigious universities from the country), WUT co-operates to increase the standards of scientific research and teaching activity, to improve the legal frame of the higher education system and of the academic scientific research, as well as to set out, in a unitary way, the academic programmes and their relevant minimum standards.
Within the National Council of Rectors, which is the only official body promoting the interests of Romanian higher education institutions, West University of Timișoara contributes to the research, analysis and prospecting activity that it constantly performs, thus enabling academic autonomy.
Scientific research and innovation
Research lies at the heart of WUT’s activity and is essential in order to guarantee the quality of teaching. The recent years classifications at international level are positioning WUT in the main five Romanian universities, but first in terms of international collaborations and impact of the research activity:
- Emerging Europe and Central Asia University Rankings: 72/2018
- QS World University Rankings by Subject: 251-300/2018 (Modern Languages)

An international university
With nearly 800 international students (6%) and over 400 Erasmus+ outgoing mobilities addressed to WUT students, academic and administrative staff, the WUT activities are strongly focused on internationalization. WUT has had 10 Fulbright lecturers since 2017, the Fulbright Ambassador in Romania being one of the WUT professors. The frequent visits of high diplomats and ambassadors from countries like UK, USA, Canada, Japan, Poland, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Croatia, France or Mexico set the perfect frame for international partnerships and collaboration. Last but not least, its community of famous alumni (Herta Müller, Chester Williams, Aura Twarovska, Silviu Oravitzan etc.) consolidate WUT’s position as a global university.
West University of Timișoara offers an effervescent intellectual environment, which stimulates individual achievements, teamwork, interdisciplinarity and research. Highly confident in the students’ potential, we communicate them the idea of constantly becoming better within WUT, providing them the support and the opportunity to discover themselves, so that at the end of their studies, they would become their best.
